When we think of the International CES® 2015, laundry is not the first thing that comes to mind. However, laundry was a hot topic…Samsung, GE, and LG Electronics (LG) showcased new products that will revolutionize our laundry experience.
LG announced its front loading washer’s TWIN Wash™ System, which enables two separate loads to be washed simultaneously. The first on the market, it has a space-efficient mini washer in the pedestal! The mini washer is perfect for delicate items that require special attention or unique wash settings. It significantly cuts down on washing time as more than one load can be washed at the same time – love this! With TurboWash™ 2.0 and TurboSteam™ wash cycles are faster while WiFi and NFC translates to an array of intriguing smart connectivity options, including compatibility with LG’s HomeChat™ messaging service.
Samsung unveiled a sink, complete with built-in side water jet and a rubbing board to scrub stains, right into the top of the machine! According to Samsung’s research, 70 percent of the consumers it surveyed pretreat their laundry on top of their washing machines. Activewash, a new top-loading washer, allows you to soak and prewash your heavily soiled clothes in the sink and then drop them into the wash basin when ready. The water is also dropped into the machine – easy and no waste!
GE announced their commitment to keep us connected to our homes with a lineup of smart appliances. Liz VerSchure, general manager for GE’s connected appliances, says, “Smartphones are the toolbox where consumers go to manage day-to-day tasks. At GE, we’re using connected appliances to help homeowners maintain their products, save time and give peace of mind.” Their connect laundry washer and dryer will be available to consumers in May 2015. The connected pair keeps users from leaving their laundry in for too long, providing a warning when wrinkles are going to set in on clothes. The app also shows the progress of the wash, how much time is left, and keeps track of how much detergent is left if you own the SmartDispense reservoir. Loving the idea of managing laundry from our phones – so efficient!
We are very excited about these innovative ideas in laundry…hope to see a device that folds laundry in the near future!
